Puzzle (Answer below)
The DCI arrived on a scene that was gruesome, blood on every wall, with a dead body lying front and centre on the carpet face down. The living room was ransacked as if in a fit of rage, and the deceased was facing the door with an unlit cigarette in one hand and a revolver in the other. On the desk was a laptop that when turned on showed a suicide note. The DCI suspected it was murder!

Answer
A number of items were inconsistent with a suicide:
- Blood on every wall, where if self inflicted the blood from the wound would have been in a specific area.
- Ransacked room, suggesting someone was looking for something.
- Unlit cigarette, suggesting that the injury was unexpected else there would have been no cigarette and if there was one it would have been lit.
- And best of all, very few people have a laptop that is not password protected, suggesting that the password was removed and the note staged!
