Elizabeth is traveling by boat from the south equator to the north. Her cabin has a bathroom but no windows. She does not have any instruments or a compass. Without speaking to any other passengers or leaving her room, she will be able to determine when the ship will cross the equator.

Elizabeth will fill the sink in the bathroom and watch it drain. When the water reverses in direction going down the drain, she will know that the boat has crossed the equator.
