Puzzle (Answer below)

Sam Smith was found dead in his office at his desk. The police narrowed the suspects down to three people that had visited Mr. Smith the day of his murder:

Mrs. Jan Smith, Sam’s wife.

Mr. Jason Fitzpatrick, Sam’s business partner

Mr. David Richardson, Sam’s best friend

The police investigator found Mr. Smith with his watch on his right wrist, a picture of his wife near a trash can under his desk and a writing pen in his right hand. On Mr. Smith’s desk the investigator found a telephone that was off the hook, a name plate and a personal calendar that was open to the July 5th page with 7B91011 written on it. After all of the evidence was examined, the police inspector knew who was the suspect.

Answer

The calendar was the key clue to solving the murder. The police determined that Mr. Smith was wearing his watch on his right wrist, so he must have been left-handed. Looking at the number written on the calendar, the numbers were written quickly and the B was an 8. The police matched the numbers to the months of the year, 7-8-9-10-11, July, August, September, October, November. Using the first letter of each month, they spelled J-A-S-O-N, Sam’s business partner.
