In Canada today is #BellLetsTalk day in support of mental health, an initiative designed to break the silence around mental illness. The initiative started in 2011 by telecom Ball Canada is an effort to raise awareness and combat sigma surrounding mental illness. Especially during these time of COVID, such an initiative is a welcome and corporately responsible resource of immense value, pragmatically implemented through dedicated content on their website and donations/funding opportunities to supporting activities.

Of interest is the scope of Bell’s mental health discussion, where tips and resources are offered, not only for managing mental health, managing anxiety stress and panic, but also resources for children, youth and loved ones. Visual resources through partnerships with the Red Cross and others are offered to assist in dealing with stress and anxiety during Covid-19.

Tackling Diversity Aspects and Stigma of Mental Illness

Bell’s Diversity Fund recognizes the particular effects systemic racism and social injustice can have on mental health, and seeks through advance mental health within this communities.

Appreciably, overcoming the stigma associated with declaring and dealing with mental illness is front and centre. Traditionally stigmatizing the individual and/or their attempts to seek help has been one of the biggest hurdles to overcoming mental illness. That Bell has chosen to tackle this problem head-on is nothing less than a truly noble endeavour so long in the making. And the results have been extraordinary – $20.8 million in funding for children and youth, 775 community fund grants, and a whopping $113,415,135 committed to mental health initiatives. Good job!

So let’s take positive action, together and individually, to make mental health matter and support Bell’s initiatives and their 2020 Bell Let’s Talk Campaign. Please visit their dedicated website Bell Let’s Talk and communicate with #BellLetsTalk, for which Bell will donate towards mental health initiatives in Canada by contributing 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet or TikTok video using #BellLetsTalk, social media video view and use of their Facebook frame or Snapchat filter.
