Did you know?

“Life is like a puzzle…. Just like you never give up on puzzle, never give up on life.”

It is so fitting that #NationalPuzzleDay is today the 29th of January, since its comes at the end of January’s doldrums, the coming of Spring and with prospective COVID resolution in sight! It apparently celebrates the birth of Dr. Ernő Rubik, inventor of the Rubik’s Cube (although not on his actual birthday).

According to NationalToday.com we have arrived at this day through an interesting chronology —

  • 2300 BC – The dawn of early puzzles, with labyrinth drawing puzzles found in Ancient Egypt
  • 1767 – The first Jigsaw Puzzle by mapmaker John Spilsbury
  • 1908 – Puzzle Mania where puzzles become a craze in the U.S.
  • 1933 – Peak popularity achieved during the Great Depression where puzzles sales achieved levels of 10 million per week

So whether its a crossword, brain teaser, logic puzzle, visual puzzle or today’s math puzzle, put your mind to work and have some fun on this special day!
